I've been to upstate New York and seen the modern sugar shacks and sampled the syrup, so it's fun to see the older traditions.Mike Brubakerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13065245846262417519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-697991371218997461.post-3058377144159916952015-03-29T17:03:47.177-04:002015-03-29T17:03:47.177-04:00Mmm! Luckily we have some friends in Wisconsin who collect the sap & make the syrup . . . and share!!!La Nightingailhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04769079547153094005noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-697991371218997461.post-83284867367630019342015-03-29T13:57:37.835-04:002015-03-29T13:57:37.835-04:00That's a long time for a farm to remain in one...That's a long time for a farm to remain in one family :-) I had my first taste of maple syrup when I visited Canada in 1979 and I couldn't bring enough of it home. I still can't understand putting it on bacon though! Sounds like it is very labour intensive work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-697991371218997461.post-12805083944487933652015-03-29T12:58:11.938-04:002015-03-29T12:58:11.938-04:00No,she doesn't, although its possible that it ...No,she doesn't, although its possible that it was a warmish day which it would need to be for the sap to be running. I believe this is the first time I've seen a photo of horses pulling a work sled. It's very low to the ground. We lived in an area where maple syrup was made. We always looked forward to sugar snow, knowing that fresh maple syrup wouldn't be too far behind. There are quite a few colorful postcards showing it, mainly form Vermont. Here are a few I have collected and posted on my Postcard Gems blog:
Maple Sap PostcardsPostcardyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16399915833682943432noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-697991371218997461.post-54953917452814839452015-03-28T08:48:42.257-04:002015-03-28T08:48:42.257-04:00An evocative post with striking photos, especially...An evocative post with striking photos, especially the first one in the snow. Like Wendy I was struck by the fact that the farm has been in the family for so long - what a history on its buildings and land.
